		<description>One big difference -- the MP3 format is not as good as AAC.

Why? Simple, AAC was created as the _successor_ of MP3 by the same groups who originally created MP3; it&#039;s just not called MP4 because the labels really hated the MP3 name at the time.

So, by definition, 256kbps AAC (iTunes) is a smaller file of better quality than 256kbps MP3 (Amazon, etc).


ps. AAC stands for Advanced Audio Codec (neither A is for Apple, which many people assume).</description>
