EyeTV Back on Apps Store ? {Updated}
We have just received news that Apple have removed Elgato’s EyeTV App from the iTunes to Apps Store. The problems that an error in a message dialogue box allowed the application to stream live TV over 3G.
Users of the application can remotely control their home systems via Elgato’s ‘My EyeTV’ service.My EyeTV allows the updating of recording schedules but when trying to play live or recorded TV users would receive the message that warns
“Live TV playback Requires a Wi-Fi network connection.”
Hitting OK closes the dialogue box but it seems hitting the “Wi-Fi Requred” title allows the app to continue beyond the dialogue box and stream TV over GPRS and 3G.
Having just tried this technique I can confirm it works but frankly it is a waste of time, the Wi-Fi warning is there for a reason and trying to watch TV over a GPRS connection is probably the most frustrating viewing you will experience.
17/10/2009 Update :
Elgato submits EyeTV 1.0.1 to Apple :
We received a message this afternoon to confirm the reason for the App Store withdrawal and confirmed it was a tiny bit of test code that left in the final build.
“Some test code that enabled live TV streaming over the cellular network was accidentally left in the the EyeTV App. Apple requested that we remove the code since their agreement with AT&T does not allow redirecting TV signals over the cellular network. The code was removed and a 1.0.1 version of the EyeTV app was submitted. ”
We expect EyeTV to return to the App Store when the 1.0.1 version is approved. Hopefully it won’t be too long before others can experience the great EyeTV app on their iPhone.
18/10/2009 Update :
This is a little bit of a strange turn of events but at midnight the EyeTV app has re-appeared in the UK apps store. The version remains 1.0.0. We deleted and re-purchased, see below. (Get it while you can).

pulled just like that without warning….. sometimes the rules are hard to fathom and according to the comments on the Tuaw post it is down to AT&T restricting streaming Apps. Lets hope the mighty Elgato will be back on there in a few hours.

Seems odd that an application like this is pulled when you can stream live tv from the net ?

Not that strange maybe, as it was pulled because AT+T had a problem with it streaming in US, O2 maybe arent so bothered about people pulling TV down to their phone, esp now they are up against Orange and Vodaphone??

@Colin Napier the app is back on the US store at the same version 1.0.0. All very strange.
