Despite being informed of a delay I am happy to report that Apple’s new iTunes remote  safely arrived at TotalApps Towers today. The remote is definitely an upgrade on the previous plastic white remote.

The device is amazingly thin, but also much longer than the first generation remote. The new remote doesn’t bring any additional functionality to the device but the repositioned buttons are definitely easier to use and the remote feels much more responsive with the AppleTV than the supplied white remote.

The full gallery of unboxing images is available on our Facebook page and Flickr group. The Apple Remote gives you total command of your music, photos, videos, and DVDs from anywhere in the room.

It works with Front Row  to make accessing the digital content on your Mac as simple as navigating your iPod. When you press the Menu button, your desktop fades and the sleek Front Row interface takes its place to give you control over your music in iTunes, your photos in iPhoto, the videos in your Movies folder, and your DVDs.

Turn up the volume. Shuffle. Skip to the next chapter on your DVD. Play a slideshow, a home movie you made in iMovie, even a movie trailer.

To be honest I won’t be able to say how good the new remote is for a few months. We seemed to go through the white Apple remotes quite quickly with the UP button being the first victim of over use.

With use with the AppleTV I find the new remote whizzes through the menus with ease and without the having to repeatedly click up and down, I love it !

I will definitely keep you all posted on how this device fairs but my initial impression is that it is built to last.
