With the exception of Apple’s heralded iPad there really hasn’t been many technological announcements that have excited the TotalApps team. Even the Apple iPad doesn’t fill me with the same “I have to have it” feeling the iPhone launch created.
Yesterday all that changed and the excitements were at their highest for 2010 when I managed to get my hands on Elgato’s new revolutionary EyeTV Netstream DTT.
I don’t think I have felt this level of excitement about a product in quite sometime. After a long while in development Elgato is today launching a dual tuner network TV device, called EyeTV Netstream DTT. Simply plug it into your antenna, and your network and you can watch, pause and record TV on any computer in your house. It means your computer TV tuner no longer needs to be directly next to your antenna outlet.
EyeTV 3 users can now stream live television over a 3G connection to an iPhone. With Elgato’s new EyeTV Live3G web app, you can watch live TV and EyeTV recordings anywhere. The web app connects your iPhone to your Mac at home. It uses state-of-the-art HTTP Live Streaming technology to deliver high quality video streams without sacrificing battery life.
With the latest release of Call of Duty Modern Warfare I find myself spending a possibly unhealthy amount of time in front of my Xbox. The Xbox 360 interface has improved massively over the last year and this week saw a number of additional improvements to the Xbox live service, Sky, Twitter and Facebook are now all accessible from the Xbox Live interface making it a massive contender in the home media centre stakes.

The free software upgrade features a redesigned main menu that makes navigating your favorite content simpler and faster, and makes enjoying the largest selection of on-demand HD movie rentals and purchases, HD TV shows, music and podcasts from the iTunes Store even better on your TV.
Well it is finally here and EyeTV DTT Deluxe is even smaller and more impressive than I expected. Elgato’s new USB TV device for both PC and Mac has to be one of the smallest pieces of technology I have come across and it is difficult to believe it is actually capable of handling digital television.
You may have spotted the un-boxing photos on flickr and I am sure, like me you are amazed that Elgato have packed all the necessary encoder circuitry into a shell that is less than 2cm long. The device is actually smaller than the USB adaptor for my keyboard ! For readers in the US the bad news is the device is only available in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
